 Spotlight on School Safety

Zero ToleranceZero Tolerance Policies in Schools”
It has been the observation of some at the Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) that there are widely varied interpretations of “zero tolerance” in regard to student infractions of school rules and laws as it relates to weapons, dangerous instruments, drugs, alcohol, academic dishonesty, bullying, etc. in Kentucky’s school districts. These interpretations range from being extremely rigid, where it is perceived that each infraction should be treated as all others, to reasonably flexible, where the consequences are determined only after examination of pertinent circumstances and indisputable facts. Additionally, managing behavior on a school bus is different from any other school setting. This workshop will provide bus drivers with a positive approach to student discipline. Drivers will learn strategies to prevent student misbehavior as well as how to handle misbehavior when it does occur.
