Week October 18-24, 2009
The KCSS
launched a statewide media campaign to raise
awareness, involvement and commitment for
safe schools efforts throughout Kentucky's
communities. Your district/school can place
a
Safe Schools Week press release in a local
newspaper and launch a media blitz.

18-24, 2009...Kentucky’s
educators are working hard to provide the
safe, healthy culture and environment
necessary for their students to learn
because we know that students must feel safe
and secure in order to learn at their
highest capacity. To further that goal,
during this week, KCSS will make a special
plea that students, parents, educators, and
the community make a commitment to choose to
“Follow the Golden Rule, Be Safe Online and
at School”

(October 18-24). Join schools across
the Commonwealth as they pledge to make the
learning environment healthy and nurturing
for everyone.
On
October 16, 2009, Governor Steve Beshear
will sign the Kentucky Safe Schools Proclamation to
Kick Off the Week of activities.
This is last
year's signing of the proclamation by Governor
Steve Beshear. KCSS Executive Director Jon
Akers, Dr. Jack Rose, Murray State
University and KCSS Staff along with
students were present at the signing.

The
Newspaper in Education Safe Schools Week
supplement is distributed through the
Lexington Herald-Leader and to Kentucky
classrooms as part of the NIE program. KCSS
partnered with the National Guard, Operation
Unite, The U. S. Drug Enforcement
Administration and the Center for Middle
School Academic Achievement to produce this
issue.
